Man gets 90 days for national forest vandalism
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a 24-year-old Canton man has been sentenced to 90 days in jail for damaging a national forest in the North Carolina mountains with his vehicle.
Authorities say Tyler Pace was with a group of people who drove up to the Max Patch area of the Pisgah National Forest in January.
Prosecutors say Pace tore down a gate allowing the vehicles to drive into an area where they were prohibited.
Authorities say Pace has repaid more than $5,000 in damages he did to the peak near the Tennessee line and the Appalachian Trail that provides a full view of the surrounding mountains.
