Monroe residents meet after mailbox thefts
VONORE, Tenn. (AP) - There is a community meeting in Vonore after a man was arrested for stealing mail.
Authorities say some people might not realize items delivered to their mailboxes have been stolen.
WVLT-TV reported the Monroe County Sheriff's Office arrested Josh Morgan on Jan. 22. The U.S. Postal Service is now investigating, also.
Detectives said Morgan was initially investigated on theft from one rural mailbox, but is now suspected of stealing from more than 100 in the area. Michael Webb said he and his wife realized something was wrong when they didn't receive items they ordered. He found his mailbox open and empty one evening. Neighbors reported similar incidents.
Authorities will discuss the thefts with local residents Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Vonore Community Center.
