New Jail Still too Small

By news admin

Even as the new Carter County Jail is almost done, there are more inmates than it is designed to hold.
Its reported Sheriff Chris Mathes spoke before a County Commission committee meeting Monday night and said the ribbon cutting for the jail will likely be on June 14.
Commissioners expressed concern when Mathes told them the population at the current jail reached 302 this week. The new jail is built to hold 296 inmates
Commissioner Ken Arney asked about putting more inmates under house arrest and using GPS ankle bracelets to keep track of them.
Mathes said he was in favor of such a plan if the judges would agree to it.
