Nurse Sentenced for Prescription Drug Theft
A Mathiston woman has been sentenced to serve a year in prison after pleading guilty to taking prescriptions from patients and using them herself.
The attorney general's office says 34-year-old Carrie McCain pleaded guilty Monday in Chickasaw County Circuit Court to two counts of acquiring possession of a controlled substance by misrepresentation.
Prosecutors say she was working as a home health nurse out of Tupelo when the thefts occurred.
Prosecutors say McCain would pick up prescriptions for pain medication at the pharmacy for the patient. They say she would take some of the pills for herself, and deliver the pills without giving the patient the bottle to conceal the actual prescription dosage and how many she had taken.
