Rescuers called to Stones River for fourth day
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - Emergency workers were called to an area of the Stones River in Murfreesboro for the fourth time in four days.
Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department spokeswoman Ashley McDonald said a 19-year-old was swimming with friends near the Manson Pike Dam in the rain-swollen river on Wednesday when he fell and hit his head. McDonald said the teen was conscious when he was taken to the hospital.
Nineteen-year-old James Patton was killed while swimming near the dam Tuesday. Police said Patton jumped into the river and might have struck a submerged object. An autopsy is pending.
Rescuers found a juvenile male standing in rushing water near the dam Sunday and were able to lead him to safety. On Monday, rescuers pulled two boys from the river after they were found clinging to trees near the dam.
