By news admin

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (AP) - A masquerade event called the Great Smoky Mountains Salamander Ball will raise funds for the continuing inventory of life forms in the mountains.

The ball at the Gatlinburg Convention Center on April 27 is sponsored by Discover Life in America, which champions the All Taxa Biodiversity Inventory - an ambitious project to catalog every species of plant and animal in the national park.

Group executive director Todd Witcher said the ball will feature a live
salamander exhibit, a salamander beauty pageant and activities for children.
