Soup Kitchen Suffers Loss, While Churches Rally to Help
A Kingsport soup kitchen has lost an entire freezer full of meat thanks to a thrown circuit breaker. But local churches are stepping in to make sure that the hungry don't go without.
Kitchen of Hope spokeswoman Nellie Volk-Roberts told the Times-News the kitchen fed almost 200 people per day last month.
She said local churches already bring daily menu items for meals. Now they also will supplement the meals with extra food.
The soup kitchen lost turkeys, hams, beef, chicken and other meats totaling thousands of dollars. They are looking for monetary donations so they can replace the lost items.
