TN Judge Seeks Delay in Drug Trial

By news admin

Attorneys for former Knox County judge Richard Baumgartner will argue for a delay of his scheduled trial in federal court.
Defense attorneys Donald A. Bosch and Ann Short filed a motion seeking to have the case against Baumgartner declared "complex." Federal prosecutors oppose any attempt to push back the trial, now scheduled to begin July 18.
Baumgartner faces seven counts of misprision of a felony.
The disgraced former Criminal Court judge resigned after it was revealed that he was addicted to prescription painkillers. He pleaded guilty to a state offense of official misconduct.
U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Phillips recused himself on Wednesday from presiding over Baumgartner's trial.
