Thirty-Year Drug Sentence

By news admin

A 43-year-old Gulfport man will spend thirty years in prison day for day after pleading guilty to two counts each of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and unlawful possession of a weapon after a felony conviction.
Harrison County District Attorney Joel Smith says that Circuit Judge John Gargiulo sentenced Percy Allen Hawthorne as a habitual offender Wednesday after he entered guilty pleas in his case.
Hawthorne had been convicted of four previous felonies, two of which involved other drug and weapons charges.
Jury selection had been slated to begin Wednesday when Hawthorne instead decided to plead guilty to the charges.
