UT launches Tennessee Nursing Institute
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The University of Tennessee College of Nursing is launching a new institute that aims to help nurses develop the necessary skills to promote high-quality patient-centered care in the Volunteer State.
The Tennessee Nursing Institute of Leadership and Policy will provide educational programs and training to nurses and other health care professionals across the state. The institute is made possible by a two-year $150,000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and matching funds from several Tennessee organizations.
The director of the institute says Tennessee's low health rankings show the system needs to improve. Tennessee ranks 47th for overall well-being, 35th for obesity and 45th on infant mortality.
The institute will work with both new nurses and more experienced ones to address access, quality and costs of the health care system.
