MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A Virginia man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for mailing threatening letters to two Memphis-area women.

The U.S. attorney's office for West Tennessee says 50-year-old Richard Lee Wade was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Judge John Fowlkes.

Wade, of Roanoke, Va., was charged in May with sending letters that threatened to torture and kill the women.

Prosecutors say that one of the letters read: "I will not stop until one of us is in our grave."

The U.S. attorney's office statement about the sentencing did not say why Wade sent the letters.

Wade pleaded guilty in November to two of nine counts.
