Brown looking to shape his Illinois legacy

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - One play in 2011 threatened to color Illinois linebacker Jonathan Brown's career. He kneed another player in the groin and the video clip was soon all over the Internet.

Brown wishes that one would go away.

But Brown is known much more now as the Big Ten's leading tackler. His coaches say he's a hard worker but also a good student of football. Defensive coordinator Tim Banks calls him a film rat who sets a good example for a young defense.

The senior from Memphis now says he wants to helps lead the team (3-5, 0-4 Big Ten) to a bowl game.

That may be a tall order. But Brown says whatever happens with the rest of this season will be his legacy at Illinois.
