Countdown to Kickoff: Lake Co. Falcons

Coach David Barger values each class on the Lake County football team.

"We got 40 kids on the roster, which is exciting," said Barger.

Even the freshmen are getting several reps this summer.

“There is some talent there, so we're excited about that group and what they can bring depth wise,” said Barger. “You never want to count on freshmen playing for you, but we're looking at those guys from a depth perspective."

Lake County's starting eleven is as talented as any in 14-A.

“We'll everything on offense starts around Devon Jones. He was running back for us last year. He’s committed to Arkansas State. He’s a Division One player, so obviously your offense is going to be built around him,” said Barger. “Our quarterback Nick Price threw for almost 1,600 yards last year. He is a big help.”

The biggest help for the Falcons may come from the line. Justin Kimble dramatically improved his speed and endurance.

"Justin is a three-year starter for us. He really worked hard to shed 45-50 pounds. It was something he wanted to take on," said Barger.

Lake County is one of the most consistently successful Class A football programs. The Falcons have reached the 2nd round of the playoffs every year since 2006. They have appeared in the quarterfinals in 2006, 2008 and 2010.

“One thing that we really talked to our kids about is next level. It’s time for us to take that next step and get past the quarterfinal and get to that semifinal and final round,” said Barger.
