Garoppolo, Babers of E Illinois take OVC honors
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (AP) - Eastern Illinois quarterback Jimmy Garopolo has been named the Ohio Valley Conference's offensive player of the year, and his coach Dino Babers has won his second straight coach of the year award.
The OVC announced the awards Tuesday as voted on by league coaches and sports information directors.
Tennessee State defensive end Anthony Bass is the OVC's defensive player of the year, and Eastern Kentucky receiver Devin Borders is the freshman of the year.
Garoppolo and Babers led Eastern Illinois to its seventh OVC title along with a No. 2 national ranking and a 11-1 record. Garoppolo threw for more yards than any player in Division I with 4,489 yards passing and 48 touchdowns. He is averaging 374.1 yards passing per game running the top-ranked total offense and scoring offense.
