Mariners Send 3rd Overall Pick in 2012 to Jackson Generals
JACKSON, Tenn. - The Jackson Generals roster is set to get a boost from the Seattle Mariners first round draft pick in 2012.
Catcher Mike Zunino tweeted late Sunday night that he was being promoted to Double-A Jackson. "Just got the news I'm heading to Jackson tmrw to play 4 the @jacksongenerals! Can't thank my teammates and coaches at Everett enough," the tweet stated.
Zunino was drafted with the third overall pick in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft.
In 29 games for the Class-A Short Season Everett Aquasox, Zunino has hit .373 with 10 home runs and 35 RBI.
He played in college for the University of Florida and was the 2011 SEC Player of the Year and a 2012 first-team All-SEC selection. He also won the 2012 Golden Spikes Award as baseball's top amateur player.
An official announcement from the Jackson Generals is expected Monday or Tuesday.
