NFL, Titans hosting women's officiating academy
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The NFL and the Tennessee Titans are trying to help more women become interested in officiating football.
They are hosting a free clinic Friday at the Titans' headquarters teaching football rules and focusing on the benefits of officiating targeting women students, athletes and coaches.
Officials Krystal Apellaniz, Jennifer Berke, Samantha Davis, Amanda Sauer and Artenzia Young-Seigler, will join Shannon Eastin, the only woman to officiate an NFL game, at the clinic. Titans safety Michael Griffin also will be part of an instant replay session, while an officials' combine will focus on fitness drills.
The clinic is part of the NFL's Women Officiating Now program. The league started an officiating academy in 2010 helping people learn how to be officials.
