Predators place veteran defenseman Gill on waivers
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Nashville Predators have placed defenseman Hal Gill on waivers.
Predators general manager David Poile announced the decision at a Tuesday morning press conference. After taking Seth Jones with the fourth overall pick at Sunday's NHL Entry Draft, the Predators have an abundance of defensemen slated to be on next season's roster.
The Predators acquired Gill, 38, from the Montreal Canadiens prior to the trade deadline in 2012. Gill, a stay-at-home defenseman known for his penalty-killing abilities, didn't produce a point in 32 games played with the Predators last season.
Should Gill not be claimed off waivers, Poile says the Predators will re-evaluate their options on what to do with Gill, who has played 1,102 career regular-season games. Gill won the Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009.
