Signing Day 2013: A West Tennessee Recap

Offensive linemen and wide outs were positions of interest in West Tennessee on National Signing Day 2013.

No fewer than four area linemen signed scholarships with NCAA schools. Humboldt standout Garett Oden signed with NCAA Division II member Clark Atlanta. USJ defensive lineman Chase Hensley signed with NCAA Division II member Arkansas Tech. South Side offensive tackle Robert Burleigh and Haywood offensive tackle Kadarren Bond signed with NCAA Division I member UT Martin.

Burleigh was named first team All‐District 14‐AA his junior and senior years and played in the Toyota East‐West All‐ Star Classic. Burleigh expects to redshirt in the fall.

Bond recorded 200 tackles and six forced fumbles and made 10 interceptions.

South Gibson High School had a trio of players sign at the NAIA level. Medina brothers Carlos and Quincy Walden signed with Bethel University. Hornet running back Rodney Napier signed with Campbellsville University.

Also on Wednesday, the 7 Eyewitness Sports team learned that Humboldt rising senior Nic McLilly has been offered a scholarship by the Vanderbilt football staff. The Commodores contacted the Viking coaches Wednesday to state their interest in McLilly.
