Slive expects autonomy to be hot topic for SEC

By news admin

HOOVER, Ala. (AP) - Autonomy will be the hot topic when SEC coaches and administrators gather for spring meetings.

Commissioner Mike Slive said Wednesday during an interview with The Associated Press the SEC wants to ensure "that autonomy really means autonomy" and the five biggest football conferences can decide how their own legislative process works.

Many of the big-picture changes Slive has been advocating publicly for nearly three years would come to fruition for those leagues if approved by the NCAA board of directors. Many athlete-related issues would be under the leagues' purview not the NCAA's.

Slive says he's "optimistic that these changes will occur and that we will be able to fully support the model going forward."

Basketball scheduling and the SEC Network's launch are also on the agenda for next week's meetings.
