Stave looks for consistency for No. 21 Wisconsin
MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Joel Stave is looking for more consistency now that he's firmly in place as Wisconsin's starting quarterback.
The 21st-ranked Badgers face FCS foe Tennessee Tech on Saturday. After outlasting Curt Phillips in the preseason, Stave says one area he'd like to improve on is getting better in the red zone.
It's hard to nitpick after last weekend's 45-0 win over Massachusetts. But the Badgers have time to work on the passing game given the cushion provided by their tough rushing attack.
Phillips might be the backup, but he's also won new coach Gary Andersen's respect after yielding snaps in the season-opening blowout to a redshirt freshman who needed more experience. Phillips is a sixth-year senior.
