Tennessee Team Apparel Sales Down

JACKSON, Tn. - Dick's Sporting Goods in Jackson was like most Black Friday sales, lots of lines, and lots of people. The only area not swamped with holiday shoppers was the Tennessee apparel area. Tennessee teams like the Vols and Titans have struggled this season which has caused sale of their merchandise to decline.

"I've noticed it's not been selling," said John Lutz, a Dick's Sporting Goods employee. He added that a lot of Tennessee fans are now trading in their oranges and blues for Alabama and other SEC teams.

WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News spoke to Jackson residents who said a person who changes teams that easily is not a true Tennessee fan.

"I'm a hardcore Titans and Volunteers fan. I'll always wear my Tennessee gear. It's not going to change my views on who I love. I've grown up a Tennessee fan and I'm not going to change that because of a down year," said Jackson resident Cody Smith.

Despite Tennessee gear hanging on sales racks this Black Friday, the slow sales does not necessarily mean fans are jumping ship.

"I've been a Tennessee fan since I was a small child and I'll continue to be a Tennessee fan and I'll always wear their merchandise and buy their merchandise," said Jackson resident Lynn Jones.

According to these residents, a Tennessee fan will always be a Tennessee fan.
