Walker Strikes Out Career High 12 in Win Over Baybears

The Generals took game two of the series over Mobile, 5-2

JACKSON, Tenn. (June 20, 2013) – Behind a career high 12 strikeouts from Taijuan Walker, the Generals (1-1) defeated the Mobile BayBears (1-1) on Thursday night in Jackson, 5-2. In total, Jackson pitching struck out a season-high 16 BayBears on the night. The win in game two of the series evened the set at 1-1.

Mobile got on the board first again Thursday thanks to a successful double steal to plate Ender Inciarte.

However, the Generals responded immediately as Generals’ center fielder Denny Almonte (0-3, R, RBI) led off the bottom of the inning a walk and scored off of Chris Taylor’s (1-4, R, RBI) double. The RBI double was his first Double-A RBI. Julio Morban (2-4, 2 R, RBI) contributed with an RBI single to center and the final first inning run was produced on an RBI single to center by James Jones (2-3, 2 RBI) to plate Morban. After one, the Generals led 3-1.

Two innings would go by before the BayBears would strike again. Raywilly Gomez singled in Garrett Weber to narrow the Generals lead to 3-2.

Once again, the Generals added a run in the fifth and one in the sixth to gain a 5-2 lead. Gabriel Noriega (2-3, R) began the fifth with a double and scored on an RBI groundout by Almonte. Then, Julio Morban (2-4, 2 R, RBI) tripled to the right center gap and scored thanks to a Jones RBI single.

In a combined pitching effort, Taijuan Walker (W, 4-7, 6.2,6,2,1,0,12,0) led the staff and picked up the win by striking out a career high 12. Kyle Hunter (H, 1, 0.2,1,0,0,0,1,0) relieved Walker and earned his first hold in the effort. Tyler Burgoon (S, 3, 1.2,0,0,0,0,3,0) finished the game on the mound for the Generals in the victory and picked up the save.

Game three of the five-game set will feature LHP James Gillheeney (3-1, 2.70) on the mound for Jackson, as Mobile will send LHP Andrew Chafin (3-4, 2.84).
