MEDINA, Tenn. - A South Gibson County High School student is going the distance with her running.

On Tuesday, senior Sheyenne Nelson signed with Freed-Hardeman University to run cross country for the Lions.

Nelson said she has only been on the team for two seasons, but quickly grew a passion for the sport, placing in the top 10 or 15 in every meet this year.

She said Freed seemed like the right place to go.

"Everyone I've met has been really encouraging, and just nice, and they have a really good academic program, and they just have a lot of what I'm looking for," Nelson said.

Nelson said she plans to study biology and conservation, and will eventually go into marine biology.
