Kasparek, Generals Shutout Braves to Win Series

PEARL, MISS. (April 11, 2011) – The Jackson Generals head home 3-2 after shutting out the Mississippi Braves on Monday night at Trustmark Park, 3-0. The Generals won the series and have won two straight games. Kenn Kasparek retired the last 11 batters he faced on Monday night, winning his Double-A debut, shutting out the Braves on three hits, in seven innings.
Jake Shaffer has had a multi-hit game in each of his first four starts, going 2-for-5 with a double on Monday night. Johermyn was 2-for-4 with his first homerun of the season. Tyler Pastornicky led the Braves with a 2-for-4 night.
The 6-10 right hander, Kasparek tossed seven shutout innings and surrendered just three hits. He struck out three and walked just one. Former Atlanta Brave Kenshin Kawakami suffered the loss, allowing three runs in 5.2 innings.
The only scoring happened in the top of the sixth inning. Rich Poythress blasted a two-run homer in the top of the sixth inning that broke the scoreless tie. The homer was his second of the season. Two batters later, Chavez belted a homer, giving Jackson a 3-0 advantage.
The Jackson Generals will hold their first ever Fan Fest Tuesday, with the Pringles Park gates opening at 5:00 PM. The event is completely FREE and open to the public. The Fan Fest will prelude the Generals’ home opener against the Jacksonville Suns on Wednesday at 7:05 PM. LHP Anthony Vasquez (0-1, 6.23) starts for the Generals against RHP Dallas Trahern (0-1, 4.50) for the Suns.
