BayBears Give Jackson their Fifth Straight Loss Thursday
GENERALS NEWS RELEASE
Mobile takes five of seven from the Generals during the series
MOBILE, ALA. (August 22, 2013) – The season-long seven games in four days came to a close in Mobile as the BayBears (33-27) took their fifth straight game over the Jackson Generals (28-31) with a 7-2 win. The Generals had their chances, getting at least one runner on base through the first seven innings, but left 10 runners on base and finished with a 1-for-15 mark with runners in scoring position. Mobile finished the season with a 9-6 record over Jackson.
Anthony Vasquez (L, 1-3, 4.45) had an up and down start. The left-hander retired seven straight at one point, but ran into series trouble in the seventh. After giving up two runs thanks to back-to-back doubles in the second, he got hit hard a few innings later as Mobile put up five runs on the board in the seventh. Vasquez never made it out of the seventh, finishing after 6.1 innings allowing seven earned runs on eight hits.
Chris Taylor (3-4, 2B, R, BB, 2 SB) led the way offensively batting out of the three spot in the lineup, while Steven Proscia (3-4, SB) recorded a multi-hit game as well. Chantz Mack (1-4, R) scored one of the two Jackson runs after making his debut on Wednesday and Jabari Blash (1-5, 2B, RBI) stayed hot at the plate with an RBI double.
Carson Smith (1.90) logged 1.1 innings, striking three out. The story, though, was the Generals’ missed chances that came back to haunt them. It was another loss that Jackson was able to out-hit the opponent in a losing effort after grabbing 11 hits on the night.
Jackson will begin the last home series of the season against Chattanooga with a 7:05 p.m. (CT) first pitch on Friday night. Moises Hernandez (1-2, 5.63) will go up against Ross Stripling (6-3, 2.78) in the pitching matchup
