BayBears evened the 7-game series at 2-2 Tuesday night

MOBILE, Ala. (August 20, 2013) – After 17 innings of baseball and 5 hours and 50 minutes, the BayBears (30-27) took two games from the Generals (28-28) on Tuesday night in Mobile. The Generals dropped the first contest 6-2 and lost the nightcap 5-4, in 10 innings. After four games in two days, the series is tied at 2-2 with three games remaining including a doubleheader Wednesday.

Game 1:

The Generals started game one with three straight singles, first from left fielder Leon Landry (2-3, R, BB), then Gabriel Noriega (2-4) and lastly Chris Taylor (2-4, RBI). Taylor’s single to right drove in Landry.

After the Generals stranded one, Mobile picked up their first run with an RBI single by Nick Evans. After one, the Generals and BayBears were knotted up 1-1.

Mobile busted out four runs in the third and one in the fourth. The five runs were unanswered until the fifth. The BayBears slugger Nick Evans was responsible for two of the four in third via the long ball.

Jackson tacked one run on the board in the fifth. Denny Almonte (0-2, R, BB) reached on a walk and scored via a sacrifice fly from Ramon Morla (0-3, RBI). Halfway through five, the Generals trailed Mobile 6-2.

The BayBears slightly out-hit Jackson, but the Generals stranded eight runners on base while plating just two of five runners in scoring position.

On the mound, Jackson’s starter Anthony Fernandez (L, 9-7) suffered the loss as Mobile’s starter Archie Bradley (W, 10-5) notched his 10th win of the year.

Game 2:

With two outs in the first, Chris Taylor (1-3, 2 R) doubled to give Jackson their first extra base-hit of the doubleheader. One batter later, he crossed the plate thanks to a Ramon Morla (1-4, RBI, R) single. Jackson took a 1-0 lead into the bottom half of the frame.

In spite of the one run advantage, it would be short lived. Mobile rallied for three in their half of the first. The first run came off the bat of Nick Evans and the other two came courtesy of Raywilly Gomez. The BayBears held a 3-1 advantage into the second inning.

Mobile’s three-run lead was the difference until the sixth. Back-to-back walks to start the inning paved the way for a late inning comeback. With Taylor and Morla on, Jabari Blash (3-4, 3 RBI, R) cracked his fifth homer with Jackson and tied the game at 4-4. The homer was Blash’s fifth in 16 games for the Generals.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the 10th when Rossmel Perez reached on a fielder’s choice and Ender Inciarte scored on a fielding error by Gabriel Noriega. The run gave Mobile a walkoff 5-4 win in 10 innings.

Kyle Hunter (ND, 1.65) started for Jackson and took a no-decision. Jackson used a total of four pitchers in the affair as Stephen Shackleford (L, 1-1) suffered the loss. Nick Hill and Moises Hernandez posted two scoreless innings in game two. The winning pitcher was Derek Eitel (W, 5-2). Overall, the two clubs were 4-for-22 with runners in scoring position and stranded a total of 21 base runners.

The last doubleheader of the series is set for Wednesday night with first pitch of game one scheduled for 5:05 p.m. CT. In game one, the Generals will start RHP Trevor Miller (2-1, 5.14) as Mobile will send LHP David Holmberg (5-7, 2.79) to the bump. Generals newcomer RHP Cam Hobson (0-0, --) will make his Double-A debut on the hill for Jackson in game two. The BayBears have not announced their starter for game two.
