Generals Take Two from BayBears Monday

Jackson has won six of seven and are now 28-26 in 2nd half
(August 19, 2012) - Led by Ramon Morla in game one and John Hicks in game two, Jackson (28-26) picked up two wins against Mobile Monday night, 3-2 and 6-3. Game one was the completion of August 6th’s suspended game and game two was the regularly scheduled game (seven innings). The Generals have won six of their last seven games and are now 12-10 in seven inning contests. The Generals are six games back of Tennessee in the North Division.
The Generals and BayBears started the doubleheader with the completion August 6th’s suspended game. The game picked up in the top of the fourth with Jackson holding a 2-0 lead.
The lead lasted for the 13-day suspension and an inning and a third before Mobile evened the score. Stephen Kohlscheen (W, 7-3) got into trouble in the fifth with two walks to start the inning. Kohlscheen committed an error that led to one run. With the tying run on third and no outs, a sacrifice fly brought in the run from third to even the score. After five, Jackson and Mobile were tied 2-2.
In the sixth, Morla broke the tie with his seventh home run of the season that proved to be the game winner. Jackson held onfor the 3-2 win.
On August 6th, Anthony Vasquez (ND) started the game for Jackson, as Bo Schultz started for Mobile. Kohlscheen (7-3) picked up the win and Carson Smith (S, 14) shut the door for Jackson in the seventh. Mark Serrano picked up the loss for Mobile.
Not wasting any time in the second game, Jackson scored in the first inning. Chris Taylor (1-3, RBI, R) opened the game with a single, then, Julio Morban (1-1, RBI) plated Taylor with a single.
Morban was forced out at second on a ground ball off the bat of Ramon Morla. On the play, Morban was injured sliding into second base and was carted off the field. There has been no disclosed information regarding the injury.
After Mobile tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first, Johns Hicks (2-3, 2 RBI, 2 R) walked with one out in the second and scored courtesy of Gabriel Noriega’s (2-2, RBI, R) two out RBI single.
Mobile pushed across two runs in the third to take their first lead of the night at 3-2. Hicks reached on an infield single and came home on an RBI ground out by Chris Taylor that tied the game again, this time at 3-3.
In the fifth, Jackson re-took the lead for good. Denny Almonte (2-3, RBI, R) singled which was followed by a walk from Jabari Blash (1-3, R, BB). That paved the way for Hicks’ bases-clearing double to give Jackson the lead, 5-3.
Almonte helped add an insurance run in the seventh by plating Noriega from second with another double.
James Gillheeney (W, 9-6) earned the win and tossed five innings, allowing three earned runs and struck out three. Stephen Shackleford (3.18) set up Dominic Leone’s (S, 4) fourth save. BayBears’ starter Bradin Hagens suffered the loss for Mobile.
The Generals and BayBears will play another doubleheader on Tuesday at Hank Aaron Stadium. The Generals will look to Anthony Fernandez (9-6, 3.89) in game one and Kyle Hunter (3-0, 1.05) will start game two. The two will be opposed by Arizona top prospect Archie Bradley (9-5, 2.00) in game one and Andrew Chafin (10-6, 2.77) in game two. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. (CT).
