Grizzlies make a pit stop in Jackson
JACKSON, Tenn. - Anticipation is building for the tip-off of the Memphis Grizzlies season. Jackson-area fans got a head start on the exciting year ahead.
"Meeting the fans and getting a foundation for next season is awesome," said Grizzlies guard Quincy Pondexter. "It's great that all the fans know something about you; it really warms my heart."
Jackson was one of many designated locations scheduled for the Grizzlies Regional Caravan Tour.
The Grizzlies started their Jackson tour at Ayers Children's Medical Center, and rounded the day out at LIFT Wellness Center. During the event, fans took photos, received autographs and participated in contests with Pondexter.
"Our team is rising. Without our supporters, we wouldn't be where we are today," explained the sharp shooting guard.
Training camp for the Grizzlies starts next week. The team is fresh off a franchise best 56 wins, in addition to their first trip to the Western Conference Finals.
The team received a face lift during the off-season, and enter this year under first year head coach David Joerger.
"Our team is going to be a lot better. We're still that underdog."
Pondexter played a vital for the Grizzlies during the post season and plans on picking up where he left off.
"I worked extremely hard this summer. We're going to be a better perimeter shooting team with the addition of Mike Miller," said the small forward.
The Grizzlies open up the season at San Antonio on October 30.
