JACKSON, Tenn.-One former Bethel University and Vanderbilt standout was back in town to take on the Jackson Generals.
Drew Hayes is a pitcher for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, which is the double-A affiliate for the Cincinnati Reds. Hayes was also a standout pitcher for McKenzie High School.
Hayes is in his second season with the Wahoos as a relief pitcher.
His parents, fiance, and friends are grateful they can watch him play so close to home.
Hayes said he is always happy to play here because he gets to stay at home in McKenzie and enjoy some home cooking.
"You know really I think it puts less pressure on me whenever my family and friends are here, it makes it a little bit more at home I feel like I'm back in high school at McKenzie, pitching up at the city park and playing," said Drew Hayes, pitcher for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. "So really for me, it's less pressure cause it's more fun cause this is where I've always grown up and played in front of these people."
Hayes also told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness Sports he spends his off seasons here in West Tennessee and plans to still live here in the future.
