Union City's Bowling named Titans coach of year
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Union City's Darren Bowling is being honored by the Tennessee Titans as the Titans High School Football Coach of the Year after leading his team to a 13-1 record and Class 1A state championship.
Union City defeated South Pittsburg 23-14 in the state championship game Dec. 6 in Cookeville. In a Titans release Tuesday announcing the honor, Bowling said that "I don't know if I am worthy of the honor, but I truly appreciate it - it's awesome."
A $2,000 Titans Foundation grant will be awarded to Union City's football program in Bowling's honor. The Titans also will recognize Bowling during their Dec. 29 game with the Houston Texans.
The criteria for selection include the coach's impact on his team, school and community.
