MAYFIELD, Ky. – The TranSouth Athletic Conference has announced the ninth weekly awards of the 2013 baseball season, and thanks to a home sweep that has them off to a 6-0 start in TranSouth play, the Bethel Wildcats have claimed both of this week's awards. Bethel completed a weekend sweep of Martin Methodist College, earning Brian Ferrell and Ryne Fisher the Player and Pitcher of the week awards, respectively.
Ferrell, a 6'0" senior left fielder from Jackson, Tenn., accounted for an impressive 16 runs created in a 4-0 week for the Wildcats. Scoring 11 times, Ferrell also blasted two homers, three doubles, and a triple and drove in eight runs on the week. He had at least two hits and two runs scored in all four of his team's games on the week, leading the Wildcats to a series sweep of Martin Methodist. In the weekend series, he hit both of his homers, his triple, drove in five runs and scored nine times.
Fisher, a 6'1" freshman from Decaturville, Tenn., made three relief appearances out of the Wildcats' bullpen on the week, picking up his third and fourth wins in a seven day period. He defeated Martin Methodist in both games of the teams' twin-bill from Saturday afternoon, adding a save earlier in the week against Brescia in an 8-6 win. On the week, Fisher allowed three runs and five hits in five innings of work, fanning four and walking only two.
