Pastner wants to add Gardner as assistant coach

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Memphis coach Josh Pastner has hired Jason Gardner as an assistant coach for the Tigers.

Pastner announced the hiring Friday, a move that must be approved by the both the university and the Tennessee State Board of Regents that oversees Memphis.

Gardner spent the past two seasons at Loyola in Chicago, and he was an assistant coach at Cathedral High in Indianapolis, Ind. A McDonald's All-American in high school and Mr. Basketball in Indiana, Gardner played at Arizona. He played in Europe between 2003 and 2011.
