Tennessee notes big demand for 'Battle at Bristol'
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee already has filled up its initial allotment of 40,000 tickets for its 2016 game with Virginia Tech at Bristol Motor Speedway.
University officials said Tuesday they have taken deposits for 35,000 seats. Tennessee athletic department spokesman Jimmy Stanton said fans making reservations paid a $25 deposit per ticket and will be invoiced for the remaining charges in 2016. The remaining 5,000 tickets will be distributed to Tennessee students in the weeks leading up to the game, billed as the "Battle at Bristol" and scheduled for Sept. 10, 2016.
School officials said they're in discussions with the speedway to secure more tickets in order to take additional reservations from donors, alumni and fans. The seating capacity for the game is expected to be in excess of 150,000.
