Vandy uses 2nd open date to rest for final month

By news admin

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Having two open dates in a season is pretty new to Vanderbilt coach James Franklin. He did his best to make sure the time off helped his Commodores rest up for a stretch run to wrap up the season.

Franklin rested as many of his starters and key contributors as possible, limiting them to individual drills and walk-throughs last week before giving them some days off.

He said Monday his Commodores are going into Saturday's trip to Florida (4-4, 3-3 Southeastern Conference) as refreshed as they've been in a long time.

The Commodores (4-4, 1-4) upset Georgia 31-27 after their last open date. They lost 56-24 at Texas A&M before having last week off but need a finish similar to last year to match their 8-4 record of 2012.
