The Tennessee Volunteer softball team now has two Renfroes
on the roster.

Ellen, younger sister of current Lady Vol and former Trinity Christian Academy Lady Lion Ivy, signed a letter of intent to play collegiate softball in Knoxville on Wednesday, the day before the one-year anniversary of Ivy's signing.

"I'm excited that Ivy is there," Renfroe said. "She can show me the ropes when I come in as a freshman."

Ellen has known she wanted to attend Tennessee since her sophomore year, when she went to a football game and the softball coaches told her they wanted her. She does not yet know what her role will be.

"They told me to just work hard," she said.

In a varsity career that began in eighth grade and will conclude this season, Renfroe has won three state championships with the Lady Lions. The senior is 75-8 in her career as a pitcher with 756 strikeouts in only 464 innings pitched, and has a career ERA of near 0.30. At the plate, she is a .380 hitter with 90 RBI from the leadoff spot.

Each year the Lion Award is given to the biggest leader on the TCA softball team. Ellen has already won it three times, including once as an eighth grader.

This season the Lady Lions will attempt to repeat as state champions for the second time in Ellen's career.
