Tennesseans exempt from Powerball?

Congratulations to the new Powerball Jackpot winner, but what about the Tennesseans? Over the past 10 years, 2003-2013, there was only one Powerball Jackpot winner who was from Tennessee. The Hubbard Family won the Powerball Jackpot in 2004. If you take a look at the Powerball winner’s stories, you will notice that over the past five or more years, the winners were of states that are from the upper east coast of the United States. Florida and California were included as well. I wrote down these winning states, looked at the United States map and it clearly show that these states touch a body of water. Here is a list from 2010 to now; New Jersey, Virginia, Florida, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Delaware, Michigan, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, Maryland, Minnesota, Indiana, Louisiana, and West Virginia. There are a handful of winners such as Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, and Kentucky that does not touch a body of water, but what about Tennessee? Most of these winners have purchased Quick Picks and won. Most of them “did not” create five numbers and the Powerball number and won. I have read an article, on the day of Nov. 29, 2012, that states, “the Tennessee Lottery has now seen 98 winning tickets of $1 million or more from all its games since inception of the lottery in 2004” (WKRN-TV, 2012). Is that it? I also have noticed that most of the $1M secondary prize winners are from larger cities in Tennessee, such as Nashville, Brentwood, Clarksville, Memphis, and Chattanooga, so that makes my mind wonder, “What about someone like me?” I live in a small town called Paris, TN. I have low income, with four children, babysit during the day, and play the Powerball faithfully. I not only play the Powerball, but Mega Million and Tennessee Cash as well. So with that said, are we Tennesseans exempt from winning the Powerball Jackpot? Are we Tennesseans, who lives in small towns, are exempt from winning at least the $1M secondary prize? Thousands of Tennesseans purchase several Quick Picks, twice a week, and basically wasting money. Hundreds of Parisians spend money in hopes to win as well. I play for fun, first of all, but also play so I can have a chance to win and get my family out of this HUD apartment. I play so I can create jobs, so I can use the money to fulfill my ideas, pay off my student loans, and to rescue my family and loved ones from recession. So, with statistics available, should someone like me quit playing? Will there ever be a chance for the Tennesseans? Is the Quick Picks rigged for the east coast? What can we do, besides wasting our money, in hopes of winning? All I want is a greater chance for the Tennesseans!

A Concerned Tennessean,
LaToya Martin

Luck isn't just for the irish! A jackson, TN woman finds 13- four leaf clover in one day! But when you thought she could get any luckier, she then finds not one but two rarwe- five leaf clover! The lucky lady says " I had never seen a five leaf clover before and today I find double for my trouble." "How blessed I am!"
As rare as you might think four leaf, or even five leaf, clovers are rare, they're not even close to the record. That belongs to a farmer in Japan, who found a 56 leaf clover. Still, her find is extremely rare.

ANNETTE WILSON HONORED AS HEALTHY SCHOOLS PROGRAM CHAMPION BY THE ALLIANCE FOR A HEALTHIER GENERATION FOR FIGHTING CHILDHOOD OBESITY
Local School Administrator to Serve as Advocate for Nutritious Eating and Physical Activity in Schools around the Country
(NEW YORK, NY) August 6, 2012 – The Alliance for a Healthier Generation, founded by the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation, today announced Annette Wilson, coordinated school health administrator from Jackson Madison County School System, as a Healthy Schools Program Champion.
The Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Healthy Schools Program supports the work of more than 14,000 schools across the country as they strive to make their campuses healthier places to learn and work. Each year the Healthy Schools Program selects a handful of its most effective advocates to join the National Champions Network—motivating and leading students and staff toward healthier school environments and serving as national spokespeople for the Healthy Schools Program.
“Behind every healthy school is a dedicated leader who takes an indefatigable approach to getting students and staff eating better and moving more,” said Ginny Ehrlich, Chief Executive Officer of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. “The Alliance is grateful for the commitment of our Healthy Schools Program Champions who are ensuring that our children are afforded healthier food and more physical activity throughout the school day.”
Wilson credits strong administrative support and policies for the success of the in making healthy and sustainable changes in its schools. With help from the Alliance and its Healthy Schools Program, her district has changed vending options and updated its policy on snacks and parties during the school day. They have implemented SPARK, an evidence-based physical education curriculum, throughout the district and many schools are using the Take 10 curriculum to add physical activity in the classroom.
Launched in 2006 with 231 schools in 13 states, the Healthy Schools Program now supports more than 14,000 schools across the country to help transform them into healthier places where physical activity and healthier foods are available before, during and after school. Nearly 80 percent of schools participating in the Healthy Schools Program have made measurable progress towards creating a healthier school environment including:
•	Fifty percent of Healthy Schools Program schools improved nutritional values of their school meals overall.
•	Eighty-five percent of schools in the Program meet or exceed the Alliance’s School Beverage Guidelines.
•	Seventy-five percent leave school facilities open for use after school and on the weekends.
•	More than 50 percent dedicated at least 20 percent of their afterschool program time to physical activity.
•	More than 75 percent of elementary schools in the Healthy Schools Program offer at least 20 minutes of recess per day.

The Healthy Schools Program is supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The Healthy Schools Program provides expert training and resources, at no cost, to more than 14,000 schools nationwide to help them improve nutrition and physical activity to help reverse the national childhood obesity epidemic. Any school in the U.S. can enroll and receive assistance and support to become a healthier place for students to learn and staff to work. Find out more at HealthierGeneration.org.

About the Alliance for a Healthier Generation
The goal of the Alliance is to reduce the nationwide prevalence of childhood obesity by 2015, and to empower kids nationwide to make healthy lifestyle choices. The American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation joined forces in 2005 to create a healthier generation by addressing one of the nation’s leading public health threats – childhood obesity.
