PTA Member Charged With Theft
A former president of a Shelby County middle school parent-teacher association has been charged with theft.
Official with the state Comptroller’s Office say Kim Mason withdrew more than $1,000 dollars from the Mt. Pisgah Middle School PTA account for her own use.
Mason told state auditors she would make arrangements to repay the funds, reports The Commercial Appeal.
A county grand jury indicted Mason earlier this month.
Shelby County Council PTA president Nancy Loggins told the newspaper Mason has repaid the money.
Auditors also found the PTA group didn’t follow its own policy of requiring two signatures on checks, which allowed Mason to withdraw money with only her name signed.
