Students in Humboldt See Consequences of DUI
The dangers of drinking and driving are being driving home for students getting ready for spring proms and parties. At Humboldt High School, emergency personnel and law enforcement set up a mock crash, involving a student who lost her life. Students helped police playing a drunk driver and the person who lost their life. Organizers of the event said it is important that young people realize the importance of not drinking and driving. “Teenagers have a tendency during prom season to experiment with alcohol and so we want them to realize the cost associated, the emotional pain, the distress and how many volunteers it takes to work and accident and take care of the people involved,” said Audra Henderson, director of coordinated school health. Law enforcement leaders said the demonstration helps young people think about the statistic that someone is killed in a DUI-related crash every 15 minutes in the United States.
