Coins Stolen in Library Break-in
Jackson Police are searching for the suspects responsible for burglarizing the downtown Jackson-Madison County Library and stealing thousands of dollars in coins. Library officials said they arrived Thursday morning to find a rock had been thrown through the front doors of the library and the coin machine attached to the printers had been taken. Police said the suspects struck after the library closed, getting away with more than $2,600 in coins. We spoke with library leaders who said their still cannot believe why someone would do this. “This is a public facility and we are here for the community and we just do not see any sense in this type of thing,” said Richard Salmons, director of the Jackson-Madison County Library. Salmons said the damage to the door is estimated at $1,000 and has since been repaired.
