After more than three decades of teaching and leading at Jackson State Community College, one very special professor is leaving more than just a legacy of learning behind. Frank Dodson’s name will forever be attached to the auditorium in the Jackson State math and science building. Friday, the auditorium was officially dedicated to the former biology teacher. Dodson, who retired late last year as provost, devoted 31 years to Jackson State. “(I am) very, very honored. It was such an honor. We’ve had so many great administrators and faculty here and I’m just overwhelmed that they would do this for me,” said Professor Frank Dodson. “Working full-time jobs, coming to school and I admired those people the most, they’ve graduated in our nursing program or one of our allied health programs and bettered their lives, hopefully I was a part of that” Dodson spent 39 years in higher education. Before coming to Jackson State, he taught at Dyersburg State Community College for eight years.
