Students in Lexington were given a rare opportunity to be all that they could be and then some. Hundreds of students from Southaven Elementary School received a visit from the US Army Mobile Discovery Program, Friday afternoon. Army leaders held several hands-on programs inside the large 18-wheeler throughout the day. Their mission was to help students understand exactly how the technology they use daily, relates to some of the technology used by soldiers in the field. “They don’t realize they use electricity all the time they all use ipods, cameras, phones and everything else, and they don’t realize all the inventions that went behind them,” said Principal Randall Denton of Southaven Elementary. Organizers said they applied for the program and had been on a waiting list for five years. The trailer is just one of two mobile education units sponsored by the Army.
