Child Run Over by Parent
Bolivar Police said a Hardeman County mother accidentally backed over 22-month old child yesterday in the 500 block of Oak Cove in East Bolivar. “She going to be devastated for good. I hope she comes out of this,” said Shirley Brown, a neighbor to the mother. The grandmother said her daughter was preparing to leave and asked one her older sons to take the little boy inside the house. Seconds later the grandmother said she her a loud scream coming from her daughter, only to find her running toward her with the child in her arms. We believe she didn’t know the body was back there,” said Chief Bill Irons of Bolivar Police Department. The grandmother said they tried to call 911, but in their panic, rushed the child to the hospital, instead. Chief Irons said doctors worked on the child for more than two hours before requesting he be air lifted to the Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, but the helicopter was grounded due to bad weather. A Le Bonheur ambulance was sent to Bolivar instead, but police say the boy died just before the ambulance arrived. “Parenting is one of the most difficult things that there is to do and it’s one of the most rewarding things, but it’s also one of the most difficult things, you have got to be careful, especially when it comes to the little ones,” said Chief Irons. Irons said they are investigating the child’s death as an accident and at this point no charges are expected to be filled.
