Tuesday’s city municipal election had several contested and uncontested races. The big uncontested race was for in the Jackson mayor’s race. Incumbent Mayor Jerry Gist was uncontested, still 2,733 cast votes for him, giving him another four years in office. “You know you can look at it three different ways as far as the mayor’s position being unopposed,” said Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist. “You can look at it saying nobody wants the job, you can look at it pridefully saying nobody can beat you, you can look at it from a strong humility standpoint and feel truly blessed. I prefer the third option.” The mayor told ABC 7 Eyewitness News the exact date for the new council members to be sworn in has not been scheduled, but it will be in July.
