TN Prosecutor Resigns Over Sex Claims

Former Hawkins County prosecutor Doug Godbee has been arrested on charges that he offered female defendants leniency in exchange for sex.

The Kingsport Times-News reports that a sealed indictment charges him with official misconduct.

Nine people filed complaints against Godbee. Some of the complaints claim sexual contact but a majority simply accuse Godbee of soliciting sex.

Morristown attorney Paul Whetstone represents Godbee. He said in a statement that his client is receiving psychiatric counseling and is ready to face the allegations.

Godbee served as an assistant attorney general in Rogersville for more than three decades. He resigned in 2006 amid allegations of a sexual relationship with a victim in a case he prosecuted. He was reinstated in 2008 but resigned again last September after the new allegations arose.
