Special Needs Baseball New Season
Special Needs Athletics is once again in full swing in Jackson. Organizers kicked off a brand new season, Thursday evening. Opening day has become a tradition in the Hub City as the league’s baseball season began on a field at the West Tennessee Healthcare Sportsplex. From children to adults, special athletes took turns at the plate and in the field. Each of the athletes are accompanied by a volunteer who participates with them throughout the game. League President Michael Richerson said the night begins and summer of fun for his very special athletes. “Their smiles are just priceless,” said Richerson. “They finally have the opportunity to come out here and play and just enjoy themselves.” Organizers said due to the large turnout this year, they will play three games each week instead of just two.
