Grand Floats Parade in Humboldt
The old adage, “Everyone loves a parade,” would best fit the mood of many in Humboldt, Friday morning. Music, food and of course dozens of floats filled Main Street in Humboldt as thousands from all over West Tennessee came out to celebrate the 74th annual West Tennessee Strawberry Festival’s grand floats parade. First place float winners Friday were the Humboldt Presbyterian Day School with their float, “Buzzin’ Around in Berryland.” Meanwhile, the smoky, sweet aroma of barbecue also filled the air in Gibson County. As contestants fired up their smokers and grills in Humboldt’s Viking Park as part of the festival’s annual barbecue contest. Participants will grill throughout the night as part of this friendly competition. “It goes back to barbeque here in the south is kind of an art itself,” said David Sikes, a Barbeque contestant. “And each year, you kind of pick up a little something from the other folks around.” The barbeque competition continues through, Saturday morning.
