Man Shot in Bolivar
A late night gathering in the 400 block of Sycamore Street in Bolivar turned violent after a 25-year-old was shot in his side. According to witnesses, about 15 people were standing in the front yard when a pickup truck, which officers said was stolen out of Ripley, Miss., drove by. Someone inside the truck began shooting, hitting one man but not fatally injuring him. “I do not believe it was a random shooting. I believe the persons responsible had a specific plan on how they wanted to do it and whom they wanted to shoot,” said Bolivar Police Chief Bill Irons. However, investigators are now trying to figure out if the bullet was meant for the victim or someone else in the crowd. Police found the suspects’ truck about a block away, still running and doused in gasoline. “More than likely somebody was there to pick them up,” said Irons. Investigators said neither the victim nor witnesses were able to give a description of the two suspects in the truck. They are now relying on help from the Ripley, Mississippi Police Department to find out when and where the pickup was stolen. “Whoever stole the vehicle is probably also responsible for the shooting,” Irons said. The victim, a former Bolivar High School student, was taken to a Jackson hospital and was released Monday morning.
