How healthy you are could be affecting your ability to get a job. Tuesday, area leaders hosted a web-based seminar to evaluate its impact here in West Tennessee. The Rankings in Action webinar, held at the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce focused on how community leaders have used last year’s county health rankings to improve the overall health and well-being of West Tennesseans. Chamber president, Kyle Spurgeon spoke with us on why the health of residents is becoming a factor in hiring around the area. Wellness is one of those areas in the economic development business that is now just starting to be important because previously companies could not compare Jackson to let’s say Bowling Green in terms of health outcomes being obesity, diabetic rates, things such as that, now you can compare apples to apples,” said Kyle Spurgeon, pres. of the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce. The forum featured speakers for the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce, West Tennessee Healthcare and the Jackson-Madison County School System and is held in part with the University of Wisconsin.
