Soccer Field Closed By E. Coli
Jessamine County school officials have closed a high school soccer field after E. coli bacteria was found in ponded water.
The bacteria strain was identified on Wednesday on the first day of classes at East Jessamine High School.
A news release from the school system, cited by the Lexington Herald-Leader stated the concentration was nine times higher than the Environmental Protection Agency considers a safe level.
Only school personnel have keys to the locked fence surrounding the field.
Superintendent Lu Young said students will not be allowed on the field until it’s deemed safe.
