East Elementary Receives Grant
In a tight economy, where school systems across the country are doing all they can to stretch a dollar, one Jackson elementary school got a much needed helping hand. On Thursday, school leaders at East Elementary School in northeast Jackson received a $2,000 grant. The funds were donated by Jo-Ann Fabrics, which is a new business in the Hub City. School leaders say they plan to use the money in the two areas of most need at the elementary. “They are splitting the money up for general education funds for supplies for the classroom as well as putting part of it towards the next phase of building an elementary playground,” said Thomas Elrod of Jo-Ann Fabrics. Officials with the business say every time the company opens a store in a new city, it makes a similar donation to a school in the area.
